Brand names can be a company's most precious asset. Pick up a brand name and analyze it in terms of the following:
1. is there a link bewtween the product and the name?
2. if it is an international brand, was the name translated into Romanian? If not, does the name make any difference for the consumers?
3. What are the connotations (positive, negative) that the name reflects on the product?
4. Now think of a new product you would like to introduce on the market and find a suitable name for it. Explain why you think this is the best name.
My example:
The brand name I like and would like to analyze is Dove.
1. I think there is a close connection between the product and name in this case. The products are basically white and there is a symbol of a dove (female bird, masculine: pidgeon), symboizing purity, cleanliness and tenderness.
2. The name was not translated into Romania, and this translation would have sounded less pure. Porumbita or "paloma" would have sounded less delicate.
3. The name brings additional connotations to the brand name, although most of the consumers do not know its significance in English. For them, this untranslated name brings an extra of extravagance and value, as foreign products are considered to have higher clas and better quality.
